I don’t really have that much to say about anything today. I just feel bored, and kind of bloggy, so here we go…
I guess the biggest thing that is going on right now is the whole health care reform business. I’ll admit right off the bat that I don’t know that much about it. If you know me, you know that I am so left wing I wont make a right turn; so I listen to our democratic political leaders for their viewpoints. I also have to weigh the moral issues as well. What would Jesus do if he was presented with this health care bill? Would he say “You mean I have to give part of my meager but hard-earned living as a carpenter so sick people that I don’t even know can get help?” No, I think not. The picture of Jesus I have in my head would probably remind you of the story of the good Samaritan.
Will some people take advantage of this? Absolutely. But most of these people who will benefit from this reform actually need it. The proof of this can be found at the actual signing of the bill. Most probably noticed that there was a boy present. He was there representing the people who need this health care reform.
His name is Marcelas Owens, and he’s eleven years old. He lost his mom to Pulmonary Hypertension when she was only 27 years old. She was a shift leader at a Jack in the Box restaurant, and ended up being let go because she started missing work because of her illness; and therefore lost her healthcare. This hits way too close to home for me, because the same thing happened to me. My illness isn’t life-threatening by any means, but it affects every aspect of my life. So much so that Social Security considers me disabled. This shouldn’t happen. Ever.
I think what chaps my ass so much about the people that oppose this is that they are, or claim to be, staunch Christians. I thought Christ’s golden rule was to love your neighbor as yourself. What happened to that? I know I’m guilty of not following this rule all of the time, but I try not to make a public display of it.
I’ve seen this as a status update on FaceBook several times already.
“We’re going to be gifted with a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he does not understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn’t read it but exempts themselves from it,to be signed by a president who also hasn’t read it and who smokes,with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay …his taxes,to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, & financed by a country that’s broke”.
I have two problems with this.
1) I smoke. A lot. I know it isn’t healthy, but it’s my decision, and it’s my business. It brings a little happiness to my little world. If you don’t smoke, I respect you and don’t smoke around you. So leave it the hell alone. If you feel the need to criticize a smoker, why don’t you shove another cheeseburger in your face and shut the hell up. Same damned thing.
2) I’m a chunky girl. I’ve been that way for twenty years now. On behalf of all the overweight people of the world, shut up. You have no business criticizing a person who has been through decades of higher learning and practice for being overweight. You’re just scraping the bottom of the insult barrel, and it doesn’t make you look good.
This last section wasn’t very nice, I know, but someone had to say it.
. . .and yes Joe Biden, it is a big fucking deal.

I know and understand that there is a problem with our health care. However, there is an even greater issue with how we take care of our health OURSELVES. There are plenty of people out there who could have health insurance now but don’t because it takes too long to do the research, and they may have to take money away from other important funds like cars they could have paid less for, cigarettes, beer, $200 dollar cell phones etc. Yes there are people who would benefit from this policy but there would be more people to take advantage than people who will be helped. And using kids is a ploy that people should be ashamed of using. There are hundreds of Clinics, medical universities and privatly funded institutions that give care to children in need for free or at an extreamly low cost. I know several doctors who do probono work. And yes Jesus was all about charity. That is a corner stone of the christian faith. But it seems to me that every one has a very skewed view of exactly who Jesus was. There are many parables in the bible concerning hard work & charity. There is also mention of socialism in the bible and how does not work and how no one benefits from it except those who work little. If we wanted to reform health care we should have started with medicaid and medicare. Here are 2 very good examples of how government run health care doesn’t work at all. So here we go adding another that will end up exactly the same as the others.

And I am also concerned about your retort to this quote. You are concerned with the fact that you smoke and the fact that your a “chunky girl”.
It bothers me that you are not concerned with the fact that this plan is indeed being funded by a man who did NOT pay his taxes….this is how this is being funded you know…..
You are not botherd by the fact that no one has any clue what they voted for, because there is a HUGE portion of the bill that has not even been written.
And you are not bothered by the fact that our nation, which is broke as it is will now be spending trillions of dollars we don’t have.
You are simply bothered because some one called someone fat and implied that it’s bad to smoke.
This is the kind of short sightedness that got us where we are in just a matter of months.
And since we are on the topic of smoking and socialized health care.
Lets say that you dont have health insurance, and you have already stated that you smoke, you know its bad for you, but you like it and don’t want to stop. Why should I be expected to pay your medical bills when you get lung cancer or COPD, since you deliberatly made the decision over and over again to ruin your own health.
I just don’t understand. There is no way this is gonna work.
There is ssssoooo much more to say but some how I am of the opinion that I will be wasting my time.
Research. Research BOTH sides. Try to find impartial researchers. That’s all i’m gonna say.
Ok, I have no idea who you are, but if you want to express your thoughts, you need to put it on your own blog. These are my thoughts, and are not for you to shoot down. I respect your opinion, but that doesn’t mean I want to hear it. Stick to your own far right corner of cyberspace.
Well put! The whole Christian conumdrum of the thing kills me . . . they’re all about helping the poor, but only if the poor don’t want abortions, are straight, and believe the same as them. It boggles my mind.
My favorite part of the bill is that there is now a tax on tanning beds. I smoke (like a train) and they have no problem taxing the ever-loving-crap out of my vice – which is bad for me. But now that they’re gonna tax those poor housewives to bake themselves (which isn’t healthy either!) its just the most horrible thing ever!! Give me a break! I say tax everything – unhealthy fast food, sodas, whatever! Maybe it’ll encourage people to make healthier choices (though it obviously isn’t working with me and my smokes).
Oh! And no one is perfect, so what’s the point in pointing out our legislaters downfalls?! I say that when Republicans learn to deal with their own contradictory actions and act appropriately (and I’m think of all the gay scandals) then they can point fingers at the Dems for smoking, weight, and tax evasion. Ye who live in glass houses . . .

Also, as the second commenter believes, the people who are like “Why should I pay for your smoking and blah blah blah?” Ya know what, I can’t have children, so why should I have to pay when your’s get sick. Granted I don’t actually believe that, but I think it’s a viable argument. It’s something you chose to do that I would have to pay for. . .same thing.
And you know what else? I like that our president smokes. It just shows that he’s real. He wasn’t my candidate of choice (I was a huge Hillary supporter), but I do like and respect him a whole lot.
Also, on the glass houses topic, I’m reminded of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. A candidate from their side propositioned someone of the same sex for sex in an airport bathroom. . .Yet when Bill got a good ol’ fashioned BJ they shit a ton of gold bricks. Please. Neither side is exempt from scandal.
